wrong turn
'The Quarry' is a standout slasher that takes just a few wrong turns
It's not often I have a lot to say about a game's menu options, but I have to give credit where credit is due: "The Quarry's" UI is an impeccably tailored and delightful nostalgia trip. Slasher films saw their heyday in the late '70s and '80s, and Supermassive Games fully commits to that aesthetic. The starting screen menu mimics a chunky desktop from the early days of computer graphics. Each of the branching paths shaped by the player's choices -- the equivalent of the Butterfly Effect mechanic in "Until Dawn" -- is represented by a VHS tape with a unique cover in the style of vintage horror movie posters. Several have stickers slapped on top: price tags and reminders to "Be kind and rewind!"

GM's self-driving skills take a wrong turn
MELBOURNE, July 26 (Reuters Breakingviews) - General Motors' (GM.N) latest journey in autonomous driving has taken it to the courthouse. Late on Friday, the $80 billion carmaker filed a suit accusing Ford Motor (F.N) of trademark infringement after the latter renamed its new driver-assist technology BlueCruise. The problem? GM has a similar system, in operation since 2017, dubbed Super Cruise, while its $30 billion self-driving division read more is called GM Cruise. The word has, of course, formed part of a generic industry term synonymous for decades with the beginnings of autonomous driving - "cruise control". Granted, Super Cruise, and Ford's new features, go beyond just speed control, allowing cars to maintain and change lanes and speed.

Virtual Intelligence Vs. Artificial Intelligence: What's The Difference?
With the rise of artificial intelligence, our definitions of certain technological processes are increasingly important. Much like in the way virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality are often confused, so what most people call artificial intelligence can become muddled with virtual intelligence. The difference between these two is vital. If we hope to know which technology to use in our everyday and business lives, we must know what differentiates them. But there is a sea of badly written and, quite frankly, misinformed articles out there on the topic.
Apple's Wrong Turn
That helps explain why Apple's initial car plan involved designing and building a vehicle from the ground up. Google, Uber, and others have a long head start when it comes to the software, but very little experience designing and manufacturing machines that people want to buy. Perhaps Apple could gain an edge by marrying the software to beautiful hardware. Alas, Apple quickly realized that building cars is quite different from building computers, and it was at an insurmountable disadvantage in that realm, too. This leaves Apple in the same position it has been in for the past decade: as a maker of sleek personal computing devices, with the venerable iPhone as its flagship.

Uber's wrong turn
Uber CEO Travis Kalanick has resigned from the ride-sharing service he co-founded, another twist in a rough year for the company. Uber has faced scandals on multiple fronts. The company launched two investigations into allegations of harassment. Kalanick, who took an indefinite leave of absence last week, was at the center of controversy over a profanity-laced outburst with an Uber driver that was caught on video. There's also a court battle stemming from allegations that Uber stole trade secrets from Waymo, Alphabet's (GOOGL) self-driving car development company.
